The Intercom alternative for small businesses on WordPress
Intercom is one of the best customer service platforms there is, and its AI agent, Fin, is very capable. It is also priced for support teams: per seat, per month, plus $0.99 for every AI outcome. For a small business on WordPress that mainly wants its website questions answered and leads handed to the owner, that is often more than it needs.
We make HolaReply. Every fact about Intercom below comes from intercom.com (pricing, help centre) and its WordPress.org listing, checked on 25 September 2026. Sources are at the end.
The short answer
- For a small business on WordPress, HolaReply is a lighter Intercom alternative: a plugin that answers visitors from your own pages and products and hands every lead to your team.
- On WordPress it runs on your own Gemini, OpenAI or Claude key (about $1.70 per 1,000 answers on Gemini Flash): free, or from $59 paid once for HolaReply Desk. On any website, Pro is $19 a month with HolaReply AI included.
- Intercom has no free plan; seats cost from $29–39 a month each, and Fin AI costs $0.99 per outcome on top.
- Choose Intercom if you have a support team that needs a full helpdesk, omnichannel inbox and advanced automation.
Choose HolaReply if…
- you are a small business on WordPress or WooCommerce
- you want AI answers from your own site without per-outcome fees
- you want leads handed to you or a small team, without seat pricing
- you want conversations stored in your own WordPress database
Choose Intercom if…
- you run a support team that needs a full helpdesk, tickets and reporting
- you want one inbox for chat, email, WhatsApp, SMS and phone
- you want Fin to resolve complex support flows and integrate with your tools
- you need EU or Australian data hosting on a contract plan
HolaReply is free for WordPress, on WordPress.org; Pro and Business are paid once.

What Intercom does well
- Fin is a strong AI agent, answering from your help centre, articles, PDFs and websites in 45 languages.
- You pay for results. An outcome is charged at most once per conversation; not when the customer asks for a human or Fin escalates, and there is a 90-day money-back guarantee on Fin.
- A complete helpdesk: Messenger, shared inbox, tickets and help centre on every plan.
- Startup programme: large discounts for young companies that qualify.
What it costs a small business
| HolaReply | Intercom Essential | |
|---|---|---|
| Seats or licence | Pro from $59, paid once on WordPress, no seat fees | 2 seats × $29 = $58 (annual billing) |
| AI | About $2–3 on Gemini for ~500 answers | 500 outcomes × $0.99 = $495 |
| Roughly per month | About $6–7 | About $553 |
Intercom’s price covers a full helpdesk and support you don’t get from a plugin; many small businesses simply don’t need it.
Where HolaReply is different
- Built for WordPress: it indexes your pages, posts and WooCommerce products and re-indexes on edit.
- Never guesses: sources under answers, “I don’t know” when nothing matches, locked topics for a person.
- Leads without seats: enquiries with the whole conversation, and HolaReply Desk (Pro) where your team replies by chat and email.
- Privacy: names, emails, phone numbers and company names removed before anything reaches the AI.
6 tickets · 1 follow-up due
HolaReply Desk (Pro): enquiries as tickets, replies by chat and email, no seat fees.
